IMAP Access

Some users prefer to use their University Gmail through a client like Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail, etc. With G Suite, the preferred method for accessing your email is from a web browser like Google Chrome. If you prefer to use a client, IMAP with OAuth is available for Google. IMAP access will enable automatically the first time you sign into your VCU G Suite account. (IMAP is not available for users in clinical departments or in Public Safety And Security)

Client Settings:

Many clients now allow "IMAP with OAuth" which provides a more secure connection than IMAP alone.

NOTE: Starting June 15, 2020, it will not be possible to create any new IMAP-only or other Less Secure Apps connections. On February 1, 2021, all existing IMAP-only and other Less Secure Apps connections will be turned off.

Click on the links below for how to migrate to an IMAP with OAuth connection for your preferred client.
